Clarksville, Ark.-- vlog sophomore defender Jason Owens has been named American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, announced ASC Director of Media Relations Greg Weghorst on Tuesday afternoon.
The 5-11, 165-pound native of Tulsa, Okla., led the Eagles to a 1-1-0 record to start the 2007 season at the Nike Kick-Off Classic in Maryville, Tenn.
Owens shut down Piedmont’s Drew Griffin, the NCAA Division III leader in goals per game last season, in a 3-0 victory on Saturday. Owens followed that performance by limiting Maryville’s Zak Peterson to one shot on Sunday.
In 14 career starts, Owens has helped the Eagles record five shutouts.
A graduate of Union High School, Owens played for the Tulsa Thunder Club team.
The Eagles will travel to Conway to face Hendrix College on September 5 for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
