The 糖心vlog官网 Pat Walker Teacher Education Program honored several of its students on April 30 with a pinning ceremony and inductions into the Ozarks Student Education Association (OSEA) and Kappa Delta Pi (KDP).

The newest inductees included, (pictured, from left) Haley Howard (K-6 elementary education), Aislinn Zapata (K-6 elementary education), James Johnson (K-12 physical education), Olivia Reed (K-12 physical education), and McKenzie Becerra (K-12 physical education). Howard, Zapata, Johnson and Becerra will all graduate on May 11. Reed is scheduled to graduate in December.

The pinning ceremony is a symbolic, time-honored tradition marking the occasion when students are formally welcomed into the teacher education program. The newest inductees received a pin that signifies their association with the teaching education program as well as their new affiliation with the teaching profession.

Several members of the University鈥檚 Teacher Education Advisory Committee Brown attended the ceremony. The committee includes, Lance Fetters, Britteny Schluterman, Roy Hester, Joanne Lynch, Dave Meador, Michele Brown and Shelley Vaughn.

Kappa Delta Pi is the international honor society for teacher education. It was founded by Dr. William Bagley in 1911 at the University of Illinois. It was established to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. The founders chose the name from the Greek words to represent knowledge, duty, and power. Pioneering from its beginning by including women as well as men, KDP grew from a local chapter to the international organization it is today, comprising 600 chapters and more than 40,000 members.

The ceremony will be livestreamed on the University鈥檚 Facebook page and Youtube channel.

The Class of 2021 includes 148 candidates for graduation. In addition, approximately 25 graduates from the Class of 2020 have chosen to participate in the event since the University had to cancel last year鈥檚 ceremony due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He served as the interim CEO of Bass Pro for 14 months before being recruited by Daisy. He has served as a director for the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation and is past chairman of Economics Arkansas and the Arkansas Children鈥檚 Hospital Foundation. He and his wife, Debra, also a 1977 graduate of Ozarks, were honored in 2020 with the Pay it Forward Champions Award from the U of O Office of Alumni Engagement.

Bagwell award recipients

糖心vlog官网 faculty members Dr. Yassine Dquidegue and Dr. Isaac Hunter have been selected as the recipients of the 2021 Bagwell Outstanding Faculty Awards, it was announced Monday.

The awards were announced during the weekly campus-wide President鈥檚 Standup meeting via Zoom. The Bagwell Awards are named in memory of long-time University trustee Richard Bagwell and his wife, Katherene, and are given to two outstanding faculty members each year who are nominated by students, faculty and staff.

Dguidegue (pictured, left), who earned his Ph.D. at the University of Missouri, has been an assistant professor of sociology at Ozarks since July of 2019.

In his nomination for the Bagwell Award, a student wrote that Dguidegue 鈥渨orks really well with all his students and emphasizes a sense of community in order to create an environment of success and openness. He is a wonderful human with an open mind and a willingness to learn about any topic and any human.鈥

Hunter, who earned his Ph.D. at Colorado State University, has served as an assistant professor of psychology at Ozarks since July of 2018.

One of the students who nominated Hunter for the award said that, 鈥淒r. Hunter illuminates what a liberal arts professor should look like. His evident care for the lives of his students inside and outside the classroom and his willingness to push and challenge us to grow into well-rounded, more self-aware people is why he is deserving of this nomination.鈥

In addition, the administration honored the entire faculty with a citation for its efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The citation read, in part: 鈥溙切膙log官网 and our students owe a debt of gratitude to every single one of the faculty who have done these things not out of obligation, but out of love for this place and the students we serve. Their spirit in the face of adversity is to be commended and will become yet another chapter of light in the history of the University. Let this citation acknowledge our thanks.鈥

In response to the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, 糖心vlog官网 has cancelled its Spring 2020 Commencement ceremony that was scheduled for mid-May, University officials announced this week.

In making the announcement to the campus community, University President Richard Dunsworth called Commencement 鈥渁 special and sacred tradition in higher education and in the lives of college graduates.鈥

鈥淏ecause of how important this event is for the entire Ozarks community, we have delayed making a decision on the Spring 2020 Commencement Week until it was absolutely clear whether or not we can provide for the protection and safety of our graduates and their families and friends,鈥 he said. 鈥淕iven the ongoing threat and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have no choice but to cancel the Spring 2020 Commencement. While I know this is extremely disappointing news for many of you, especially our graduating seniors, please know that we understand the importance of formally celebrating this wonderful accomplishment with family and friends.鈥

Dunsworth said the University is exploring several options in which graduates could take part in a formal ceremony, including giving them possible options to participate in the University鈥檚 December 2020 or Spring 2021 Commencement activities or in a special ceremony later this year.

糖心vlog官网 is expected to welcome more than 500 alumni, friends and family members to campus for a variety of events and reunions during Homecoming 2018, scheduled for Oct. 25-28.

In recent years, the University has combined its traditional alumni weekend with homecoming to make one larger campus-wide celebration. This year, family weekend will also be a part of Homecoming 2018.

鈥淲e combined the events a couple of years ago so that alumni and current students would have more opportunities for interaction and it鈥檚 worked out even better than we had anticipated,鈥 said Lori McBee, vice president for advancement. 鈥淭his year we have an added bonus of family weekend being a part of Homecoming, so it will be a great opportunity for our alumni, current students and their parents to take part in a large number of events we have scheduled.鈥

The weekend will include numerous family-friendly events, including a Raku pottery workshop on Friday, an alumni and friends fun run and walk on Saturday morning, soccer matches and a tailgate and family carnival on Saturday afternoon, a youth cheer camp on Saturday afternoon and the All Hallows Eve Concert on Saturday evening.

There will also be the annual Alumni Awards Ceremony on Friday evening in the Rogers Conference Center. This year鈥檚 recipients will include, Fidel Samour 鈥08 of Little Rock, Ark., with the Young Alumni Service Award; Maria Denise Duarte 鈥08 of Managua, Nicaragua, with the Young Alumni Achievement Award; Kent Cecil 鈥80 of Clarksville with the Alumni Achievement Award; Kaye (Bagsby) Person 鈥77 of Tuckerman, Ark., with the Alumni Merit Award; and the Jimmie 鈥53 and Laura Anne (Self) Thames 鈥52 family with the Alumni Legacy Award.

Other events throughout the weekend include, the alumni golf tournament on Friday morning, a bonfire on Friday evening, a Walton Arts & Ideas Series lecture by 3-D printing prosthetics advocate Jen Owen on Thursday evening, Yoga on the Mall on Saturday morning, a Fall Festival on the campus mall on Saturday evening, a Memorial Chapel Service on Sunday morning and various decade reunions.

鈥淲e鈥檝e got more than 30 different events throughout the weekend for our alumni, students and families to enjoy,鈥 McBee said. 鈥淭his is by far the most events we鈥檝e ever had for Homecoming weekend and we believe we have something everyone.鈥

Most of the events are open to the public and many do not have a cost for admission. For a complete schedule or to register, please visit or contact the Alumni Office at 979-1234.
